The Origins of the Order

In the year 1173, a group of Knights from Northern France had been rejected when they tried to join The Crusades. A month after the main force from their region had left, they decided to follow behind the first group of Crusaders to join up with them in the Holy Land. They lost their way and wound up in the Greek mountainside, not too far from Athens.

The Would-Be Crusaders found themselves confused and unable to speak to the few locals they stumbled across. Sensing the group was giving up hope, a rather shy, lower-ranking member of their party, Jaques S'er, stepped forward one evening and begged their attention. He informed the group that he was of Greek decent, specifically from the region they now occupied, and that he knew some of the language of his ancestry as was passed down to him. The leader of the group stepped aside and asked the younger man to show them the way.

At that moment, a figure emerged from the shadows and walked forward into the fading sunlight. The small group was astonished; not by the man's sudden prescence, or ancient armor, or slight transperency. What held their wonder was that he was almost the exact image of young Jaques, whom he approached, smiling. He touched Jaques' shoulder and a small outcropping in the hill behind him began to glow. The light became very intense and then just as quickly faded, as did the mysterious figure.

Jaques led the way to the investigate the source of the glow. There they found a cave. Torches were made and the party entered. What they found inside were a vast collection of scrolls written in the ancient language of the land and a low altar, upon which rested a sword with a starburst hilt and a pointed helmet of the same type their strange visitor had worn.

Jaques began to read to the men from the scrolls. They told the tales of a legendary warrior named Joxer the Mighty, his adventures and great friendship with Xena, Warrior Princess and Gabrielle, Queen of the Amazons and Bard of Poteidaia.

So inspired by the life and actions of Joxer the Mighty, and now convinced that he had been their otherworldly visitor, the would-be soldiers decided to abandon their Crusade and instead devote themselves to "righting wrongs and singing songs" in the tradition of The Mighty One. Thus, the Order of the Pointy Hat came into being.
